Happy Birthday To Me

It's so pretty and red, and will geotag my photos so I don't have to add all the pins in iPhoto's Places after the fact. No, I am not at all neurotic about organizing my photos. I ordered it this evening, hopefully it will arrive before I head to Ottawa for a wedding on the weekend!

I want to be a fashion photographer now

I came across this really cool video on fstoppers.com:

And then watched a bunch of the other photography shoot videos. Why are there so many cool jobs that don't make you work for five years on a doctoral degree? Why don't they tell you about them in highschool?

If you go to the fstoppers site, make sure you watch the video about shooting at a 15K-a-night suite in Vegas. Incredible.

See the web in a whole new way

... or not. Whoopsie.

I still love you, Apple. Especially if you keep making sexy, sexy iPhones.

Most Fun Ever

Thanks to The Pioneer Woman, I found a cool collaging site a few weeks ago. Oh dear.

I hated collaging in school - poring through magazines (being stuck with Canadian Living rather than Vogue didn't help this step), cutting, arranging, losing your arrangement thanks to a light breeze, arranging again, gluing... ick.

This site is like that, but instead of magazines you have THE ENTIRETY OF THE INTERNET and instead of glue and fickle cutouts you have basic resize, order, and arrange tools. It's addictive. It's helpful. For example, before I found this site, I didn't know that I NEEDED $500 glittery flats from Miu Miu to wear with the dress I bought for my old roomie Sara's wedding in September.

Now I know.  I need those shoes. And the Prada handbag too.

Outfit for a country wedding

Having figured that out, I can go do my laundry so I have clothes for tomorrow and can pack for the conference I'm going to in fewer than 36 hours. I wonder if collaging can help sort out my priorities?

The Inevitable

I guess it had to happen sooner or later, but my beloved macbook pro is beginning to show signs of age. I'd noticed for the last few months that she was beginning to go. Her battery would drain more quickly, her responses were less spry.

Today the warning came: "You don't have enough free hard drive space to run this application". Uh oh.

Here were are together, when she was brand new.

Dave has offered to upgrade my hard drive if I buy a new one. I'm reluctant, and the best analogy I can come up with as to why is like this: I'd trust him with my life, but not if that involved open heart surgery. Likewise, my laptop. I don't want to watch as its poor case is opened and deeply embedded parts are removed and replaced. I want it in the hands of someone who will be able to/have to replace it if they end up destroying it.

I'm going to make my first pilgrimage to the Genius Bar at our local Apple Store today. Hopefully they'll be able to make some suggestions to get my beloved laptop up in tip top shape again.

Why and How I'm Backing Up My Data

I just found a great data backup tool:

http://mozy.com

I've been trying it out for free, and I'm impressed thus far. I think I'm going to spring for the $5 monthly subscription and back up all my files. It will be great not to worry about losing my (now extensive) library of photos.

Caving to Twitter

In an effort to keep my readership up on my daily insights, I have started an account on twitter. There's a new module in the box to the right that displays micro updates from me. So you'll know when I'm on the bus and stuck in traffic. You'll know when I have random insights waiting for the metro. The goal is that when I'm out of ideas for a proper post, I can still make sure that everyone knows I'm still alive.

Feel free to ignore, if you find it's TMI, but I have so much fun stalking other people via twitter, I'm interested to see what it's like on the other side of the fence.
